WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL?

From USD $ 5400 pps

Kenya

January
The first herds of the Great Migration are now in Masai Mara and Serengeti starting to get ready for calving where about eight thousand wildebeest calves are born each day. It is at this time of year that these parks become the finest place in Africa to view concentrations of predators on open plains.
A beach holiday in Mombasa is also the perfect way to relax after the early morning wake-up calls of a safari.

February
This is the peak of the calving season with over half a million wildebeest being born, meaning the predator-prey interactions are a common spectacle as the battle for life takes place in front of your eyes. Due to the chance of rainfall, camps tend to be quieter during this month but this generally means lower camp rates. However, any rain that does fall is often short lived and doesn't affect game drives. The wildebeest are constantly on the move during this time, following the rains as it rejuvenates areas of grassland.

June
As the weather is now dry, you will find plenty of animals at the water holes. Since the Wildebeests are still in the Grumeti in Serengeti, there are less crowds in Masai Mara and you can still do your game drive in search of the big 5 animals.

July
This is one of the busiest months where the greatest spectacle on earth is about to happen, the thousands of wildebeests have to fight all odds by crossing the Mara into Kenya’s Masai Mara while battling predators and the strong river currents. This dramatic show should not be missed.

August
This is the busiest time in Masai Mara due to the annual migration. Predator prey interaction is also at peak.

September
Still a huge attraction during this time because of the migration with predator prey interaction still at large.

October
Known for its special 5 animals, Samburu is the perfect destination to unwind in nature.

November
Although there are a few showers here and there, this is a good month for a safari and the best for bird watching.

December
Great months for safaris, but you must book early in advance as camps are easily sold out.

January
January will be a short dry spell (compared to months like April or November where you’ll discover why the rain forests are so named). That’s not to say it’s going to be bone-dry. Bwindi’s equatorial location and average temperatures mean tropical conditions whatever the month, but January’s drier days make trekking through the forest prime to embark on what many consider one of nature’s great bucket list experiences: a face-to-face encounter with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

February
February is the end of the short dry season and certainly provides a fantastic opportunity to view the Great Apes in their natural habitat. At this time the foliage is thinner and paths are easier to follow whilst trekking.

June
This is the best time to go gorilla trekking being the driest month. The trekking conditions are favorable and there is plenty of sunshine piercing through the forest giving you dramatic photographic highlights.

August
Though there is little rain, August makes the peak season for gorilla trekking in both Rwanda and Uganda. Booking early for this is necessary.

November
It is also rainy season and the gorillas move down the mountain as the vegetation is in plenty here.

December
This is the easiest time of the year for finding and photographing the great apes.
