If you are a history lover, then Athens must have come up on your bucket list. You could easily spend days exploring this fascinating ancient city. It is the birth place of democracy and the heart of the Ancient Greek civilization. Athens is named after the Greek goddess, her shrine, the Parthenon, sits on top of a hill in the center of the city.

The Acropolis of Athens are the ruins of iconic 5th-century B.C. temple complex on Athens’ rocky hilltop and that are now currently undergoing restoration. They are the greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens, dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess Athena. The Acropolis Museum is where we saw masterpieces of the ancient Greek civilization and houses life and human activities from the 4th millennium BC until the 12th cent. AD.

No trip to Athens is complete without a visit to Plaka. This is one of the oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods full of small cafes and souvenir shops. Here, you will find tourists along the narrow streets who also want to steal a glimpse of this beauty and savor the local delicacies. You will also find an outdoor movie theater and an archeology site. If you have been to the Greek Island, then you will love the Anafiotika, which is an Island Village in the Plaka. It is a cluster of small houses built on the slopes of the Acropolis above the Plaka. The views of the city from here are amazing.
