The best of Bali, Indonesia

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

Idyllic beaches. That is the first thing many people think of when you mention Bali, but truth is that is just one side of the story, and my vacation to Bali was an eye opening moment for me.

Our first stop was the Tanah Lot Temple. This is one of Bali’s most important Hindu temples. Built on a rock just off the shore, it’s one of the unique temples and a popular tourist and cultural icon for photography. After going round, we decided to briefly visit Uluwatu Temple which is so similar to Tanah Lot. We came here to enjoy the sunset and fire dance performed every day at 6PM.

Ubud is also a must visit. Set amidst verdant rice paddies and a lush tropical jungle, Ubud is a small town located in the island’s interior. It’s considered the cultural heart of the island with its Hindu temples, artisanal boutiques, art museums, and galleries. On way way to Ubud be sure to stop by the Tegenungan Waterfalls, you will thank me later.

Nusa Penida is also another Instagram worthy place. It’s an island southeast of the mainland that’s become a popular photo backdrop for its coastal cliffs resembling a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Though the cliffs of Kelingking Beach are the island’s most identifiable feature, there’s lots to appreciate here for nature lovers. Compared to the main island, it’s much less developed and perhaps provides a glimpse of what Bali used to be many years ago.
