Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital is one of those top 2020 destinations. It has a lot to offer but not many people know about it. From the adorable coffee shops scattered all over.Tbilisi to the various places you can visit, this is one of my favorite cities. Everyone likes to taste foods and wines in their birthplace, but if you need to taste wine from its original source, then you need to plan a wine tour from Tbilisi. Here, they have been making wine longer than anywhere in the world. On exiting the airport we were given a free bottle of wine – which country would do that?
Our first stop was the Narikala Fortress. This site is gorgeous and adding on to it, the best place to get a panoramic view of Georgia, but this does not come easy. Going up the fortress requires you to use your four limbs at some point. But once up there you realize that it was all worth it. The views are also stunning at night, so consider visiting during the day and night.
The better part of the afternoon was spent in Old Town. This is the heart of the tourist activities where you will find churches and historic sites. We also got to go up to the Mother Georgia Statue. She is the symbol of Georgia and behind her lies a beautiful botanical garden. The Sulphur Baths are also a must try.
The last place we visited was the bridge of peace. Officially opened in 2010, it is a pedestrian glass and steel bridge in a bow-shaped design that sits over the Mtkvari (Kura) river in Georgian capital. The bridge is 156 meters long and has more than 10 000 LED bulbs built-in and provides amazing views of Tbilisi, especially at sunrise, sunset or night.
If you are there on a Saturday then Saturday flea market, also known as the “Dry Bridge Market.” It’s fun to wander the antiques spread on the sidewalk.
