Grand Bay, the main resort of Mauritius is the one "must see" beach village. With its numerous hotels and bars, specialist cuisine restaurants and snacks, fashion boutiques etc as well as a host of tropical resort amenities such as big game fishing, outer-islands trips, under-water walking etc, Grand Bay is indeed a very popular attraction and a must for visitors. At night, Grand Bay becomes truly alive and activity does not die down under the early hours of the morning.
Only a couple of miles further north along the coast lies the village of Pereybere with its very popular public beach. It is an area where property rentals are inexpensive, often offering standard budget accommodation and guest houses. The beach itself is as good if not better than Grand Bay and seems to attract a larger proportion of the younger generation. Because of this, it's a "happin'" beach. Noted as the fun beach, Pereybere is fuller during school holidays and weekends. Sand soccer games and kite surfing along with some great swimming keeps everyone in shape on Pereybere. Because the water here is deep and crystal clear, it makes for great snorkeling. Make sure you stay along the rocky outcroppings as that is where the coral begins and fish hang out. Pereybere Beach is also excellent for families because the surf is normally calm.

HOW TO GET THERE |
| |
Once you arrive at the international airport, you will be met and transferred to the beach destination of your choice. Most resorts are within a 100km radius, meaning you should be sipping a cocktail on the beach in under an hour! The local transport is effective with many buses and private taxis that ply the island. You could rent a car, scooter or bicycle if you want to explore at your own pace

CLIMATE |
| |
Mauritius is an all-year round destination with fabulous weather. Most tourists tend to visit between October and April, the summer months when temperatures are around 30°C and you can cool off in the warm Indian Ocean. It rains from January to March, clearing the humid air but there can be cyclones during this time too.
If you are not a sun lizard then the winter months from July to September are your best bet. Temperatures hover in the 25°C range, and it is drier, better for outdoor activities like hiking. The inland areas are slightly cooler than the coast, though a permanent sea breeze does help relieve the heat. The east and southern regions are slightly colder and wetter than the west and north, though the difference is marginal.
