SeychellesNot Just Another Place, Another \World

115 granite and coral islands extend from between 4 and 10 degrees south of the equator and lie between 480km and 1,600km from the east coast of Africa in the western Indian Ocean.   Seychelles is home to no less than two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the legendary Vallée de Mai on Praslin where the wondrously shaped Coco-de-mer nut grows high on ancient palms and fabled Aldabra, the world’s largest raised coral atoll, first seen by early Arab seafarers of the 9th century A.D.

Seychelles, one of the world’s very last frontiers, promises adventure and breathtaking natural beauty in pristine surrounds still untouched by man, Seychelles offers an exotic blend of unspoilt beauty and modern luxury. Silver white beaches fringed with palm trees, secluded coves and superb accommodation greet all those who land on these tropical island shores. A long tradition of providing excellent service in sublime settings ensures that your hotel or resort will add to a wonderful Indian Ocean experience. The archipelago is home to the world's most beautiful beaches and yet Seychelles island holidays are so much more than just indulgence in sun and sea.

Under the turquoise waters is a marine ecosystem that offers some of the best diving in the world. Coral reefs invite snorkellers to colour their day with vibrant coral and darting fish; fishermen arrive back on shore, happily exhausted from trying to best the game and fly-fishing world records held here.

Deciding the best time to visit Seychelles may well be determined by your interests, whether those be diving, fishing, hiking or the ultimate Seychelles beach holiday.

Seychelles Inner Island:

The granitic islands of Mahe, Praslin, and La Digue together with their satellites from the cultural heart of the archipelago. Gateway to Seychelles and home to the International Airport.

Anse Source d'Argent harbours a rich underwater world. Praslin's legendary Coco-de-mer nut grows on ancient giant palms in the wondrous Vallee de Mai Forest. Time stands still on La Digue where on-carts hold sway on the paths to the dream beach of Anse La Sourced Argent. The Northernmost coral islands of Bird Island and Denis Island offer unforgettable sights of the turtles nesting on ivory sands and, on Bird Island, of millions of sooty terns, which colonise part of the island every year. East of Mahe lies Fregate, showcase for several endemic species of fauna.

When visiting the tropical Seychelles islands it is unusual to visit only one. Let our Seychelles tours take you island hopping from laid-back larger islands, like Mahé, to exclusive private islands such as the luxurious Denis Island. Or for the best of both worlds combine your island holiday in Seychelles with a safari on mainland Africa.

Seychelles Outer Island:

The Outer Island are situated beyond the Seychelles plateau comprising of 73 low lying islands between 230km and 1150 km from Mahe.
Only two islands among the Outer Island groups, Alphonse and Desroches offers accomodation.

Accomodation in Seychelles

From impeccable five-star sophistication, to charming family run guesthouses Seychelles offers accommodation to meet the needs of each and every visitor. Seychelles’ holiday hideaways can be found nestled amidst lush vegetation and tropical gardens, or within a few steps of sandy white beaches and the warm Indian Ocean, from mountain side retreats to private island exclusivity, there is accommodation for anybody with a taste for topical paradise.

Each hotel category offers an assortment of hotels, from the deluxe five star island resorts to the smaller boutique style guesthouses or the family friendly beach resorts.

Island Retreats

For an exclusive level of privacy and luxury, Seychelles currently offers 14 private island escapes, each offering the unparalleled exclusivity of only one establishment.

Excelling in barefoot luxury, from traditional rustic beach bungalows to lavish, award winning luxury villas, these scattered islands are all within easy access by boat, helicopter and in some cases plane from the main island of Mahé.

The island retreats offer some of Seychelles’ most beautiful and unspoilt beaches and spas and provide not just the most relaxing experience in Seychelles, but arguably in the world.

Large Hotels

Unlike crowded tourist resorts elsewhere, in Seychelles a hotel which offers more than 25 rooms is considered as a large hotel, and there are very few which offer over 100 rooms. However, for visitors looking for the amenities offered by larger establishments – such as restaurants, bars, water sports facilities, activities for children, and evening entertainment – properties on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue, and ranging from deluxe to family hotels, are available and operating at the highest international standards.

Small hotels

Seychelles’ large range of small hotels each provides visitors with a unique introduction to tropical rest and relaxation. Each property boasts its own special character and style, from high-end luxury to the more family oriented ‘Creole’ properties, which offer a more intimate and homely feeling, with all accommodation in the small hotels category offering less than 25 rooms.

Self-catering

For a less restricted holiday, ideal for the more independent traveller, Seychelles offers a wide range of self catering properties. Seychelles’ self catering options provide the visitor with complete privacy and enable them to fashion their own unique itinerary and create a complete home away from home.

Island Hopping Holidays

Discover the rich environmental, geographic and cultural variety of the Seychelles archipelago, with an island hopping holiday.

A three island holiday, featuring the three main islands of Mahé, Praslin and LA Digue, lets visitors explore Mahé’s bustling market and soaring mountains, the legendary Vallee de Mai on Praslin and the laid back tranquillity of La Digue. And for a more deluxe island hopping tour, Mason’s recommends including an island retreat. Let Holiday Bazaar tailor make an island hopping holiday to suit you.

  CLIMATE

Seychelles’ enviable climate is always warm and without extremes. In this tropical haven the temperature seldom drops below 24°C or rises above 32°C. All but the remotest southern islands lie comfortably outside the cyclone belt making Seychelles’ a year round destination for sun worshippers and beach lovers.  Sailing can be done all year round and is a marvellous way to visit the scattered islands of the Seychelles.
During the north-west trade winds that visit between the months of October and March, the sea is generally calm and the weather warm and humid, with average winds of 8-12 knots which is the best time for anglers to go to Seychelles, although fishing is possible all year round. April, May, October and November have the highest visibility and calmest seas for scuba diving
In January and February the islands receive their life-giving rains, rejuvenating the rivers and streams and teasing the vibrant foliage into rainbows of colour.
The months between May and September bring drier, cooler weather, and livelier seas - particularly on south-eastern coasts – and winds of 10-20 knots.  May to September is the best time to go hiking and walking because of the dry conditions, lower temperatures and lower humidity
When deciding when to visit Seychelles, bear in mind that the seasons in the Seychelles are subject to the wind direction of the monsoons. From November to April, the north-west monsoon brings hot and humid weather. For the remainder of the year, the south-east monsoon tends to bring dryer air, strong winds and big swells at sea. The islands lie outside the hurricane belt, and so are unaffected by these severe and ill-tempered tropical cyclones.
