Mombasa North Coast

Mombasa North Coast  is where the crowds are, but it's a young, funky and vibey atmosphere and you're sure to have a great time. This is where you'll find the larger resorts and popular beaches not to mention luxury spas to cater to your every whim.

Bamburi Beach

Bamburi Beach lies just north of Mombasa and is a busy stretch of white sandy beach with large and small hotels which vary in quality. Along some parts of this beach there is no beachfront at high tide.

Nyali Beach

Nyali Beach lies just across a bridge from Mombasa Island and is mainly an up-market residential suburb for those who work in Mombasa. The Nyali estate boasts an 18 hole golf course. English Point looks across the creek surrounding Mombasa Island towards the Old Town and the nearby Tamarind Restaurant, renowned for its excellent seafood, overlooks the old Dhow harbour. The Tamarind offers dhow trips with superb seafood lunches or dinners along the creek. Along the shoreline, the beaches and white and sandy and lined with palms. If the visitor wants a change from beach activities the Bamburi Quarry Nature Trail is an impressive example of land reclamation from a cement quarry and is home to a wonderful variety of creatures, crocodiles, birds and fish.

  HOW TO GET THERE

Seeing as it is Kenya's second largest city and premier port, Mombasa is pretty well-connected in terms of transport. You can fly here direct from Nairobi several times a day - it takes less than an hour from Wilson Airport. The road between Nairobi and Mombasa is well-tarred and the ride should take about 10 hours. There is also a railway line running from Mombasa westwards - book a first-class ticket and hop aboard for an overnight train ride.

  CLIMATE

There are two wet seasons known as long and short rains. The long rains (heavy downpours with storms) run from late March until June, and the short rains (less severe) from November to January.
