Mahé, measuring 28km long by 8km wide, is the largest island and cultural and economic hub of the Inner Islands, and the international gateway to Seychelles. It is home to the international airport and the nation’s capital, Victoria. With a backdrop of towering 1000m granite peaks, Mahé is an extraordinary treasure trove of flora that has evolved over centuries of splendid isolation. Rare endemic plants found nowhere else in the world adorn Mahé’s mist forests in mountain strongholds, such as the Jellyfish Tree, the carnivorous Seychelles Pitcher Plant and the Seychelles Vanilla Orchid.
Mahé is the transportation hub for island-hops and day excursions to neighbouring islands and all other islands within Seychelles. All scheduled domestic flights by Air Seychelles originate from Mahé to the serviced islands. A leisurely tour of the island by car will take 2 to 2 1/2 hours and reveal the lion’s share of Seychelles’ accommodation facilities, places of cultural interest and other attractions

HOW TO GET THERE |
| |
Mahé boasts the only international gateway to the Seychelles - the International Airport, near Victoria, the capital of the country. Air Seychelles operates scheduled flights from London (Heathrow), Qatar Airways and Emirates fly to and from the Seychelles with connecting flights to various worldwide sectors through Dubai and Doha. Other airlines include Air France, Kenya Airways and Air Mauritius.
Once you arrive on Mahé, it really depends where you want to go. The capital city of Victoria and the beach resorts on the island are easily accessible by car. You can explore most of the sights on foot or hire a bicycle and ride your way round the island.
There are numerous daily flights to the smaller islands with Air Seychelles, such as the shuttle service to Praslin. Helicopter Seychelles, a charter company, also operates island transfers, especially to La Digue and the smaller, more remote islands. If you are feeling adventurous you can travel to the islands by ferry (motorized or wind-assisted) or boat, or even join a sailing trip!

CLIMATE |
| |
Seychelles’ enviable climate is always warm and without extremes. In this tropical haven the temperature seldom drops below 24°C or rises above 32°C. All but the remotest southern islands lie comfortably outside the cyclone belt making Seychelles’ a year round destination for sun worshippers and beach lovers. Sailing can be done all year round and is a marvellous way to visit the scattered islands of the Seychelles.
During the north-west trade winds that visit between the months of October and March, the sea is generally calm and the weather warm and humid, with average winds of 8-12 knots which is the best time for anglers to go to Seychelles, although fishing is possible all year round. April, May, October and November have the highest visibility and calmest seas for scuba diving
In January and February the islands receive their life-giving rains, rejuvenating the rivers and streams and teasing the vibrant foliage into rainbows of colour.
The months between May and September bring drier, cooler weather, and livelier seas - particularly on south-eastern coasts – and winds of 10-20 knots. May to September is the best time to go hiking and walking because of the dry conditions, lower temperatures and lower humidity
When deciding when to visit Seychelles, bear in mind that the seasons in the Seychelles are subject to the wind direction of the monsoons. From November to April, the north-west monsoon brings hot and humid weather. For the remainder of the year, the south-east monsoon tends to bring dryer air, strong winds and big swells at sea. The islands lie outside the hurricane belt, and so are unaffected by these severe and ill-tempered tropical cyclones.
